Are we in that generation?

Are we in that generation?

(Proverbs 30:11 - 14) “[There is] a generation [that] curseth their father, and doth not bless their mother.  [There is] a generation [that are] pure in their own eyes, and [yet] is not washed from their filthiness.  [There is] a generation, O how lofty are their eyes! and their eyelids are lifted up.  [There is] a generation, whose teeth [are as] swords, and their jaw teeth [as] knives, to devour the poor from off the earth, and the needy from [among] men.”

John Gill describes this generation thusly; “A sort of men that neither fear God nor regard men; and are so inhuman as to be without natural affections to their parents; have no reverence of them, love to them, nor give them any honour or obedience; so far from it, that they curse their father that begot them; imprecate on him all the evils in life they can think of, and wish him out of the world.” Some of the commentaries believe the author of Proverbs is describing his generation. The characteristics listed here could describe some in every generation, however the words, in my mind at least, seems to picture the prevailing attitude of the greater part of society today.

We are expected to accept the ideas and attitudes of this generation without question or comment. We are told that our thinking is flawed and we need to be tolerant of music that glorifies the flesh and promotes sinfulness. We are ask to forget the idea that alternate lifestyles are wrong even though there is clear scripture that condemns the behavior.  Our televisions are bombarded with programs that promote the occult. Vampires, werewolves and demons are glorified; God is portrayed as anything from George Burns to a helpless oaf that is bungling around wondering what to do next. Public praying to Jesus is banned but the occult are awarded rights to do and say what ever they wish.

Whether that is the cause or the result we are facing a new year that only promises an escalation of immorality and debauchery.  Schools are handing out condoms like candy, teachers afraid to be in the class room and gun violence at an alarming rate.  We could list many other symptoms of the malady we are facing however we know only too well the problems.

You may not believe in God or that the Bible is true but facts of history prove that in societies where Bible principles are honored many of the problems we are facing are marginally reduced. Do not tell me that people were not happier when Mom and Dad were in control of their children. I have listened to too many testimonies of how God changed men’s lives because dad and mom made them listen as the word of God was read. I have seen too many young peoples lives changed by obeying the gospel they heard preached. I witnessed too many broken homes and hearts mended by the obedience to the precepts of God’s holy word. Believe it or not makes no difference to me God’s principles always work. (Proverbs 30:5)  “Every word of God [is] pure: he [is] a shield unto them that put their trust in him.” Take it to the bank friend it is true!

The godless would have us believe that “a sort of man that fears not God or regards man” is acceptable if not the norm. That Christianity is to combative, puts guilt trips on people and should be abolished. We should accept other gods and/or other belief systems. Many church leaders tell us not to talk about heaven or hell just be positive. We are encouraged never to call a person a sinner or refer to them as lost. I don’t know about anyone else but that is too sweet, it makes me sick.

For a good New Year; Back to God, Back to the Bible; Back to Church and back home. You will be surprised at how it will change a generation.
